Better yet, just donate your good stuff to help benefit the Peaks Island Children's Workshop!

Kids and adults will be transfixed by these puppets fashioned by Nicole's mother when Nicole was a child. Nicole, Daisy and Imogen will make the puppets come alive with this all-new show. Thanks to the Peaks Island Library for sponsoring this PeaksFest puppetpalooza!

An honest-to-goodness real bake sale is one of those rare times to let go and indulge! Ah, life is sweet! Proceeds benefit the kids at the Peaks Island Children's Workshop. And you can help by donating your baked specialties or by stopping by to enjoy the decadence. But you'd better hurry. In past years the bake sale crowd left nothing but crumbs!

Find your way to Ferry Beach to experience island author & illustrator Jamie Hogan's new picture book, Seven Days of Daisy. Celebrate those things that can make island summers special as Jamie and her daughter Daisy have fun with book making activities, a rowboat picture booth, giveaways, icy watermelon, and a book sale and signing. Then, take your signed copy of Seven Days of Daisy on a walking tour of the island to visit actual scenes from the picture book pages!

Peaks Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Info We've gotcha covered - with your help! Come learn more about our very own team of volunteer emergency responders. CERT members will be on the Dock handing out information about their programs and recruiting new members throughout the day. In the afternoon, drop by the Fire Station for a demonstration of fire extinguisher techniques. Pick up an Emergency Procedures Card and sign up for the new Resource Directory. We will also have other CERT information from FEMA and we're looking for more teammates!

10:00 am - 4:00 am MacVane Community Center For More Info: Call Judi Clancy, 838-2859 or Vinnie Demos, 766-2377 PEAT Celebration of Trees The Peaks Island Environmental Action Team (PEAT) is celebrating the trees on Peaks Island during Peaks Fest by sponsoring a showing of photos, drawings, paintings, poems and other creative art forms. Anyone who loves the Peaks Island environment is encouraged to participate. And professional artists and craftsmen are especially encouraged to get inspired to participate. Please submit your work and include your name and contact info so that interested patrons people know how to get touch with you. It's an opportunity to showcase both your work and the beauty of Peaks. There will also be a contest for kids 12 and under. And the winning entries will be featured on the front page of the Island Times!

And Peaks Island hosts the first and only Umbrella Cover Museum dedicated to the appreciation of the mundane in everyday life. It is about finding wonder and beauty in the simplest of things. Join in the fun with the Guess the Number of Covers contest and win a prize!

11:00 noon - 3:00 pm Downfront by the Kiosk For More Info: Call Lisa Lynch, 766-2600 Star Spangled Strawberry & Blueberry Shortcakes How about a hunk of homemade strawberry & blueberry shortcake served up by the Ladies Auxiliary. They'll be raising money for their Scholarship Fund with your $3.50 donation and you'll be getting that sweet taste of summer. They only come in one size, but you can buy two or three and pretend you're picking them up for friends! ;-)

Open House This is always one of the BIGGEST hits during PeaksFest. Kids get a chance to see how they look in those cool fireman's hats, boots and coats! Come and meet our island firefighters and climb up on a real fire engine! Say hello to our policemen, too, and get tips on being safe and secure all year 'round.

1:00 pm - 2:30 pm On the Dock For More Info: Denise Macaronis, 766-2970 Extreme Hooping (Hula-Hooping!) The Peaks Island Health Center is sponsoring an exhibition of Extreme Hooping. It's not your basic Wham-O hula hooping, folks. It's fun, it's fitness, and its very cool to watch and do. Get your hips gyrating and spin them hoops, baby! Yeeha!!

1:00 pm - 1:30 pm Meet at the Legion Lawn For More Info: Call Kristen Chalmers, 766-2456 The Anything Goes So Decorate Your Bike, Scooter, Stroller, Skateboard, Golf Cart, Grocery Cart, Pick-Up Truck, Rolley-Suitcase or Wheelbarrow Pie Parade It's our big community PeaksFest parade and you're invited to join in with your decorated wheeled contraption of choice (yes, originality counts here!). We'll have oodles of free decorations so kids & parents can creatively decorate all bikes and wheely things. The Peaks fire engine and Peaks Island Kazoo Humdingers will join in as we strut from the Legion Lawn to the tent at St. Christopher's in time for the big Pie Eating & Dessert Contests. Bring your camera, your mobile Facebook and YouTube apps, and your sense of astonishment as the parade passes by.

Peaks PIKES Kazoos, Bubble Conclave ...featuring the Bubble Brigade, Percussion Players and Humdingers! Bubbles and Kazoos and Bells and Pots & Pans...Oh my!! Join the zany marching PeaksFest band! We'll supply the kazoos, bubbles & bells and we just need YOU to join in and hum, blow, jingle and bang! Come to the Legion Lawn at 1:00 pm, help us decorate the band-leading golf cart, get a kazoo or bottle of bubbles, and help lead the big Pie Parade in typically peculiar Peaks style!

Call Faith York, 766-5763 PeaksFest Costume Party Parade In past years we've had mermaids (mer-men?), hayrides, and all sorts of whacky and creative concepts in our PeaksFest parade. This is your chance to join in with your island neighbors for a great big legal slice of genuine crazy. Kids and adults can dress up in their favorite costumes and you'll know you've got it right by the level of laughs, guffaws, snorts, claps, hollah-backs, and oohs & ahhs you receive along the parade route. Peaks Island style originality counts here. So surprise us! (OK, please keep it "family-friendly" as there are lots of kids involved...)

2:00 pm - 2:30 pm St. Christopher's Church Tent For More Info: Call John Freeman, 766-2016 TENTH Annual PeaksFest Pie Eating Contest Who's up for getting mighty messy? Well the young and younger set can go for the glory as we again offer our homemade delectable chocolate pudding pies in the annual pie-eating contest! This is something you've just gotta see to believe. We wrap the kids in plastic ahead of the head-dunkin' goo-fest and we hose 'em off afterwards. (Kids have to have graduated from kindergarten to meet our new minimum age requirement.) So, come cheer on your favorites and bring your cameras for some of the most fun videos and Facebook material all year!

2:30 pm - 3:00 pm St. Christopher's Church Tent For More Info: Call Charles Burr, 712-2133 Dessert Entry Deadline 1:00 pm! PeaksFest Best Bakers & Dessert Makers Contest & Sale Our annual dessert contests bring out both the best bakers and dessert makers on the island for a freestyle dessert competition throwdown! Our very own expert panel of Peaks Island Councilors will be judging this year's competition. You're welcome to describe your ear-to-ear smile inducing dessert creation on an anonymous card. It's pies, cakes, puddings, cookies, brownies and whatever these master dessert mavens can dream up! And best of all, you can buy slices of these yummy creations when the judges are done!

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm TEIA, Trefethen Landing For More Info: Call Monica Stevenson, 766-2010 TEIA Open House & Tennis Time The Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association (TEIA) has been one of the island's landmarks for nearly a century. Drop by to check out the club facilities and even try out our clay tennis courts. We'll give you the scoop on membership options (open to all Peaks Islanders) as well as our tennis, sailing and summer camp programs. Bring your own tennis gear including proper tennis shoes (required, please) on the well-groomed clay courts.

3:00 pm - 7:00 pm Start at Gem Gallery Wander to Various Studios Call Tim Nihoff, 776-5576 Peaks Art Walk, Wander & Studio Open Houses For the 12th year, a dozen Peaks Island artists and craftspersons will open their studios so you can get an inside peek at the creative process and the homegrown talent her on The Rock. Maps and information will be available at the GEM Gallery, and Inn on Peaks Island (and from other island artists and venues). These studios will be open featuring work for sale in diverse media.

Civil War Day, Featuring the Excelsior Cornet Band The Fifth Maine and Eighth Maine are co-hosting a Civil War remembrance with a live performance of the Excelsior Cornet Band. New York State's only authentic Civil War brass band. The band of New York musicians are dedicated to the performance of original Civil War music on actual antique brass band instruments of the 1860's period. The band recreates the glorious sounds and appearance of this time in American history by performing the most popular melodies of the 1850-1870 period, as well as patriotic airs, operatic medleys, marches, and dance music by the era's most renowned composers and bandmasters. (The concert is sponsored, in part, by the Peaks Island Fund.)

5:00 pm - 5:45 pm Peaks Island Community Center For More Info: Call, Ellis Ducharme, 766-5763 DVDs of "On The Edge" will be available for $5.00 "On The Edge" Documentary Island Premiere "On the EDGE," created by our very own Ellis Ducharme, is a documentary on drug abuse made for teens, by teens. It features eight interviews, and discusses real-life stories and experiences relating to drugs and alcohol. It runs approximately 15 minutes and after this video is premiered, a one-minute public service announcement will be shown featuring over a dozen teens and Peaks Island's own Randy Richardson. A Q&A session with several interviewees will follow the videos. And stick around for the fun showing of the blooper reel!

Call 766-5514 Tickets: $10 adults and $5 children under 10 Traditional Ham & Bean Suppah' As part of The Fifth Maine's sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) celebrations, it's having an always popular New England traditional Ham and Bean Supper. Enjoy a delicious suppah of Stan's famous homemade beans (two kinds!), ham, and all the fixins (which includes coleslaw, breads, desserts and beverages). They'll be having two seatings, at 5:30 & 7:00 pm and reservations are recommended as these always sell out !

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm Eighth Maine Regiment (around the corner from Fifth Maine) Call, 766-5086 All-Island Musician Open PeaksFest Jam Session Bring your instrument and your talent to the (first annual?) open-invitation, all-island PeaksFest jam session. It will be one hot night of music and dancing and sweet tunes to create that magic that only happens when folks come together just to jam. Come to listen, play, sing, dance, and see a special night of music happening right before your ears!
